Your Dog Would Love to Stay at Dogwood!

Storm prep is underway at Dogwood! ❄️

We’re “pregaming” before the big storm this weekend to make sure every VIP guest is warm, safe, and cozy. Extra care, extra comfort, and lots of love—just the way it should be. 🐾💙

(This pretty girl decided an extra fuzzy blanket was called for).

❄️ Extreme Cold Weather Pet Safety Tips ❄️

When temperatures drop, our pets rely on us to keep them safe, warm, and comfortable. Here are a few important reminders to help protect your dogs and cats during extreme cold:

🐾 Limit Time Outdoors
Even dogs who love the snow can get cold quickly. Keep potty breaks short and watch for shivering or lifting paws — signs it’s time to head back inside.

🏠 Provide Warm, Cozy Shelter
Pets should stay indoors during extreme cold. Make sure they have a warm, draft-free place to rest with plenty of blankets or bedding.

💧 Check Food & Water Often
Cold weather increases calorie needs, and water can freeze quickly. Always make sure your pet has access to fresh, unfrozen water.

🧂 Protect Their Paws
Ice melt and salt can irritate paws and be toxic if licked. Wipe paws after walks and consider pet-safe ice melt at home.

🐕‍🦺 Bundle Up
Short-haired, senior, and small dogs may benefit from a coat or sweater when going outside.

🚗 Check Your Car
Cats sometimes seek warmth under car hoods in cold weather. A quick knock on the hood before starting your car can save a life.

❤️ Watch for Signs of Cold Stress
Shivering, lethargy, whining, or lifting paws are signs your pet is too cold and needs to warm up immediately.

Getting ready for a boarding stay is easier than you think. At Dogwood Pet Resort, we have everything your dog or cat may need during their time with us, from cozy spaces to daily care routines that feel familiar. That said, we always welcome a few personal items that help pets settle in and relax.

A favorite blanket, bed, or toy can go a long way in making a new space feel like home. If your pet is on a specific diet or takes medication, packing those items ensures consistency and comfort throughout their stay. Every pet is different, and we’re happy to accommodate what helps them feel most at ease while they’re with us. We love creating a calm, supportive environment where dogs and cats can truly relax.

Boredom Busters for Dogs & Cats! 🐾

Did you know boredom can lead to stress, anxiety, and naughty behaviors in pets? 😬
That’s where enrichment comes in!

Enrichment keeps your pet’s brain and body happy by encouraging natural behaviors like sniffing, hunting, problem-solving, and exploring.

🐶 Easy enrichment ideas for dogs:
✔️ Puzzle feeders or slow bowls
✔️ Hide-and-seek treats around the house
✔️ Let them sniff on walks (it’s called a sniffari!)
✔️ Short training or trick sessions

🐱 Fun enrichment ideas for cats:
✔️ Interactive wand toys
✔️ Puzzle feeders for meals or treats
✔️ Window perches & vertical spaces
✔️ Rotating toys to keep things exciting

✨ The best part? Enrichment doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive—small changes can make a BIG difference in your pet’s happiness.

We love incorporating enrichment into every pet’s day because a busy brain = a happier, calmer pet. 💙
